Congratulations to the Apartment Association Celebrating 85 Years of Service

Congratulations to the Apartment Association for celebrating its 85th year of serving landlords and the local community. Last month was the Installation and Legislative Reception, and I am sorry for all of you who missed such a great evening. There were Legislators and their representatives there to thank the Association and Malcolm Bennett for their great service. It was such an honor to witness the accolades of Malcolm’s accomplishments and to celebrate such an amazing man. Thank you, Malcolm, for your service, insight and hard work to this industry.

Governor Schwarzenegger set the record for signing the fewest bills in a single year in 2009. He signed 632 bills. The Legislature on the other hand, sent just 872 bills to the Governor, the fewest in over 40 years. The Governor vetoed 240 bills, or 27.5 percent, down from last year’s record of 414 vetoes. For those that are really interested in statistics, former Governor Deukmejian vetoed the most bills in a single year (436 in 1990).

Todd Brisco To Lead AACSC; Malcolm Bennett Receives Honors

Todd A. Brisco received the presidential gavel from Malcolm Bennett at the recent legislation reception and installation dinner at the Yacht Club. Todd will serve as President of the AACSC Board of Directors for 2009.

Todd, a landlord/tenant specialist and also a real estate and insurance defense attorney, has been an attorney for more than 15 years in Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino counties. He is the sole proprietor of his own law firm, the Law Offices of Todd A. Brisco, in Anaheim. He also serves as judge pro tem for San Bernardino and Orange counties.

The California Legislature Increased Sales Taxes and Accelerated The Payment of Income Taxes Earlier This Year

Everyday we are barraged with articles about the financial plight of government and occasionally we read an article that features the difficulties hard working families are experiencing when making ends meet. The latest state government activity to increase revenue was barely discussed in the media. Unfortunately it will have profound impacts on taxpayer pocketbooks. The California Legislature increased sales taxes and accelerated the payment of income taxes earlier this year. Acceleration of income tax payments start on November 1st.
